Esper's EscapeShe could have sworn the salamander had looked straight into her eyes. For a moment its green-eyed gaze had rooted her to the ground. It had pleaded to her, in that moment, with her face mirrored in its own tiny, confused and vulnerable wordlessly appealing for her to stop. But then the moment had passed, and it was once again a squirming turquoise salamander, trapped beneath a little stone. The stone had been placed on it on purpose.
